Holy cow guys, everytime i ride the subway/streetcar I think of how badly i want to throw a party on one. Can't believe newmindspace exists. You guys have my utmost respect. I shouted Merry Christmas on the crowded rush hour subway today, no one answered...typical of Torontonians. We have to change that. I want to work 4 you really badly. Anything i can do, anywhere, anytime let me know: closet_baby@hotmail.com.
Much love, Happy Holidays!

Getting a bit close to the date. Size of streetcar, starting location or route information might be nice? |

This debate is cheeky and wholly ignorant. No word is offensive in the right context. I'll say eskimo anytime i please so long as its meant in a kind way. And yes, it is a synonym to the word inuit which refers to aboriginal people. Furthermore, let me just say that words like "nigger", "chink", "gook", "kyke", "cracker" etc. are never kind. Well "nigger" might be the one exception seeing as it has taken on a whole new meaning as a slang term. Otherwise, those words were created to insult racial groups and should therefore never be used to refer to them. I think that should end the discrepancy. |

Indeed eskimo does literally translate to flesh eater. I myself am distantly related to "eskimos". I find nothing offensive to the word. They all eat fish and hunt seal and any other game in their environment as a way of life. |

i have spoken to many people who find many words offensive, not typically because of the actual impact or pejorative meanings but because of the general ignorance and lack of education of the offended person in question.
I also find myself offended when people use vague proofs to prove a point (ie. I have spoke to a lot of people who think "this") but have no actual quantifiable measure of backing themselves up (usually because they are talking shit) OR any sort of quality check against the people they happened to ask.
(ie. only 40% of Americans believe in Evolution, the other 60% believe the world was created in some way.
A staggering number of that 60% want lessons in science pulled in school because it contradicts with their beliefs (what do you mean logic dictates I'm wrong?!?!! The logic must me wrong!!).
Regardless, just because I talk to a lot of them and they don't believe in science over their religion doesn't mean I should generally hold their points to be true.)
I mean.. for pete's sake there are still women who get insulted by the word History! Anyone with a modicum of inclination can find out that the word History was around a FEW THOUSAND years earlier than the word "His" and are both rooted in completely independant languages. Buy a clue!)
Can't wait to ESKIMO it up and party on the streetcar! |

i have spoken to many inuit who find the term "eskimo" antiquated and frankly, offensive. your suggestion to "look it up!" is cheeky and wholly ignorant. |

LandS are charging 22 not 20. That was really annoying because I didn't have enough money and I usually don't carry enough cash. Plus the people at LandS were really big jerks about it. It put me and my friend in such a bad mood. |

Hmm, odd that I learned the raw fish eater thing in school from my teacher. |

"Eskimo is actually an acceptable term to describe arctic aboriginal people"
Do you have a bit more of a reference on that? I'm not quite convinced by the smiley face |

A limited number of tickets are available at Lavish & Squalor (253 Queen St. W) until they run out, which we expect will happen soon!
No tickets will be available at the event - advance, in-person tickets only <3 |
