Gargoyles, peacocks and beavers, oh my! We invite you to join us for our last(?) game of Capture the Flag on the entire downtown campus of Canada's largest university. Defend your territory by tagging trespassers and sending them back to their side. Utilize 7 subway stations, two streetcar routes and three buses to get to the enemy flag, outmaneuver their flag keepers and dash to Queen's Park for a point in this fast-paced, heart-pumping urban game.

We will meet on the steps of Sydney Smith at St. George Street and Willcocks St. on October 21, 2005 at 8:30 PM. Take the subway to St. George and walk two blocks south, or take the Spadina streetcar to Willcocks and walk east, or take the #94 bus to St. George St. Cellphones highly recommended to communicate with your team!

Rules

The Map
The game board is divided into two "sides" by Queen's Park. Each side of the streets that lead to the park belong to a team, but the park and street itself is neutral. The boundaries shall be Bloor Street to the north, College Street to the south, Yonge Street to the east, Spadina Avenue to the west.

Hint: Assemble attack squadrons in Queen's Park by the statue!

Teams
Each team is chosen at random; but friends' preferences will be respected.
Glowing armbands will be used to denote teams.

Planning Time

Each team is given a flag and is allowed 10 minutes to hide their flag and develop a strategy.
The flag MUST be placed on the corner of two surface streets with at least 3 points of approach. No alleys, laneways, circles, dead end streets or underground pathways.
At the end of the 10 minute planning time, a cellular call will go out and the game will begin.

Cellphones will be used to make a telephone chain to keep up team communication.

Territory
Players are safe on their side. If they are in enemy territory, they can be tagged by an opponent. If they are tagged, they must proceed to the border and count to ten.

Transportation
Players are allowed to use bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, longboards, taxis, streetcars, buses, and the subway as long as they are not carrying a flag.

Captures
A point is scored when the enemy's flag enters your territory. When a point is scored, you must call a referee for the point to count.

The team with the most points at the end of the game wins! :)

Cost and Age Restriction
Our events are always free and all ages! You do not need to sign up, just show up :) But we appreciate the roll call. If you are late, simply choose a team by putting on an armband, which will be left for you.

e-mail for more details, and check out our good friends at Manhunt Toronto, urban gaming pioneers!
